arete Australia is thrilled to announce that our Old Peter Mac Cancer Centre Imaging Relocation Project has been nominated for the 2024 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Fitout over $10M category!
In 2022, arete Australia was awarded the Construction Management contract for this project. The construction took place on Level 2 of the Smorgon Family Wing at The Royal Victorian Ear & Eye On The Park Facility in East Melbourne, transforming a former University of Melbourne laboratory into a world-class, 1,800 sqm medical imaging facility. This state-of-the-art facility now includes two MRIs, CT, X-ray, Ultrasound, Mammography, a medication room, patient holding and recovery areas, Radiologist reporting, interview and consulting rooms, a multi-disciplinary team conference room, patient waiting, and administrative areas.
Key Innovations:
Complex Coordination: Conducting the majority of works above and below an operational hospital required meticulous planning for materials, equipment, and personnel movement.
Structural Innovation: A custom 30-tonne steel gantry frame was designed and installed to host the material hoist, ensuring seamless construction without disrupting hospital operations.
Precision Planning: Given the live hospital environment, we had to ensure there were no unexpected interruptions to any hospital facilities. To achieve this, we engaged in weekly meetings with hospital representatives, planning and agreeing upon each interruption weeks in advance to ensure all parties were informed and our work could proceed without delay.
QA Excellence: Tailored quality assurance processes enabled us to meet stringent timelines and deliver this project on time and on budget, including the delivery and installation of specialist equipment such as MRI, CT, X-ray, Ultrasound, and network switches.
We acknowledge and thank everyone involved in bringing this project to life. Congratulations to all nominees! Our team looks forward to seeing the results at this year's Master Builders Victorian Awards tonight.
