Melbourne’s young explorers can soon enjoy an exciting new addition at Melbourne Museum - the Gandel Gondwana Garden, a 900-square-metre outdoor play-based learning gallery designed for children aged six to twelve.
This unique space invites kids to learn about the diverse habitats that have shaped Victoria’s environment over time and explore the ecosystems that make life on Earth possible. The garden will also showcase First People’s stories of Creation, sharing the deep connection between land, language, and culture in Australian Indigenous cosmogony.
Named after the ancient supercontinent Gondwana, which once connected Australia with New Zealand, Antarctica, South America, and more, the Gandel Gondwana Garden offers a rich educational experience, blending play and learning in a dynamic outdoor setting.
This remarkable garden has been made possible through the generous support of the Victorian State Government and renowned philanthropists, Mr. John Gandel AC and Mrs. Pauline Gandel AC, after whom the space is named. The Gandel Gondwana Garden promises to be a vibrant new space for children to explore, discover, and learn about the natural world.
