arete Australia, in partnership with Kane Constructions, collaborated with the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) to refurbish a new girls’ boarding house in Richmond, Melbourne. Completed in January 2020 under an open-book, “at cost” model, this project transformed an existing church building into a three-level residential facility offering 18 bedrooms.
MITS provides pathways to greater opportunity for Indigenous students from remote and regional communities, offering a Year 7 program for 22 students annually. After completing their time at MITS, students transition to Melbourne partner schools across Independent, Government, and Catholic sectors, empowering them to lead lives full of choice and opportunity.
arete Australia worked closely with key project partners including Michael Schiavello, PlumbForce – Central Plumbing and Hardware, Cooke & Dowsett, Jade Garden Design & Service, Harvey Norman Commercial, and Reece. We are grateful for their support in delivering this meaningful project that supports the education and growth of Indigenous youth.
