In early 2021, arete Australia was awarded the $4 million Lump Sum contract to deliver the Monash University Clean Labs Project (ISO4 & ISO6) project.
Construction of the new ISO4 & ISO6 Clean Rooms was within the existing rooms of Building 28, Monash University Clayton campus. The clean lab was constructed for the new Head of School of Earth, Atmosphere & Environment (EAE), Professor Andrew Mackintosh.
The cleanroom laboratories were not required to have PC classification but were required to be ISO Class 4 compliant, pursuant to ISO 14644-1:2015: Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments - Part 1: Classification of air cleanliness by particle concentration.
The most important aspect of the clean room design was the HVAC systems which have specific requirements for air changes per hour and air flow patterns with significant plant to service the lab on the low level roof of the building.
The project was completed in a fully occupied and operational University environment and was both technically challenging and rewarding for all parties involved, resulting in a world class research facility.
Practical completion was reached in early 2022.
