arete Australia was engaged by the University of Melbourne to undertake the Bio21 Level 4 Refurbishment project in March 2020.
Located in the west wing of the David Penington Building (B102), the project required close collaboration with Scarborough Architects and Umow Lai to create a modern, adaptable laboratory environment that supports advanced research.
The works involved the installation of a new coolroom, custom benches, sinks, removable overhead shelving, and joinery, as well as modifications to existing laboratory gas systems. Existing fume cupboards were removed and reinstated to meet contemporary standards.
The project reached Practical Completion in June 2020, reflecting arete's commitment to delivering high-quality, specialised facilities that enhance the University’s research capabilities.
