The Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences refurbishment was among the first projects delivered under the University of Melbourne’s Framework Agreement. A complete transformation of the existing facility, previously dedicated to physiotherapy labs, lecture theatres, and workspaces, has resulted in one of Victoria’s most advanced optometry and vision education centres.

Key works included the design and installation of a new structural steel skeleton to reinforce the existing façade, ensuring the building meets contemporary standards. The final outcome is a striking 4,600m² space that seamlessly integrates optometry and physiotherapy teaching areas, as well as office facilities, all underpinned by a robust, largely hidden structural framework.

This innovative refurbishment underscores arete Australia’s capability to deliver sophisticated education environments that support cutting-edge learning and research.
